Legal Experts

Legal professionals with expertise in commodity trade contracts, trade finance, sanctions law, and international arbitration have a key role to play in shaping CRT's standards and contributing to its educational programmes.

Engagement invited Updated June 2026

What CRT offers this group

Legal practitioners are in a unique position in relation to CRT's mission. They advise traders on the legal dimensions of their transactions, see the consequences of conduct failures at first hand, and bring expertise in the legal frameworks — contract law, sanctions compliance, arbitration — that underpin professional conduct in commodity trade.

CRT needs legal expertise to: ensure its standards are legally coherent; develop Module 4 (Legal and Contractual Frameworks) of the Foundation Certificate curriculum; review the complaint and appeals procedure; and advise on the legal structure of the Commission as it develops.

Programme model

Proposed engagement routes for legal professionals:

  • Faculty contribution: Contributing to the development and delivery of legal modules in the Foundation Certificate, particularly Module 4 (Legal Frameworks) and Module 6 (Regulatory Compliance)
  • Standards review: Providing legal review and input on CRT standards documents, including the Code of Conduct and certification standards
  • Consultation participation: Engaging in CRT consultations in a professional capacity to ensure legal dimensions are properly addressed
  • Professional Membership: Legal professionals with a direct commodity trade practice are eligible for CRT Professional Membership
