Business Assurance
CRT Business Assurance is a proposed organisational-level review and recognition programme for businesses engaged in commodity trade. It gives organisations a way to demonstrate to lenders, insurers, counterparties and other stakeholders that their operations meet CRT's professional standards.
Who it is for
Business Assurance is relevant for organisations that:
- Trade in physical commodities and wish to demonstrate their standards to stakeholders
- Are seeking trade finance and wish to demonstrate professional standards to lending banks
- Are seeking trade credit insurance and wish to demonstrate risk management quality to underwriters
- Wish to participate in the CRT trade platform as verified business entities
The problem it addresses
Individual certification — the Trade Integrity Passport — addresses the professional standing of individual traders. But trading businesses as entities also need a way to demonstrate their operational standards, internal controls, and commitment to professional conduct. Business Assurance addresses this at the organisational level.
Scope
Proposed scope: Organisational governance and ownership structure review; assessment of internal compliance and risk management practices; CRT credential status of key personnel; documentation and record-keeping practices; complaints and conduct history.
Out of scope: Financial audit; statutory compliance certification; legal advice; regulatory approval in any jurisdiction.
Limitations
Business Assurance — limitations
- This service is proposed and has not been designed in detail.
- CRT Business Assurance is not a regulatory certification and confers no legal authorisation to trade.
- CRT is not an auditor. Business Assurance is a professional standards review, not a financial or legal audit.
- No organisations have been assessed. No assessment methodology has been finalised.
Availability
Business Assurance is proposed and at an early stage. It is conditional on the Business Membership programme being operational and the assessment methodology being developed and independently reviewed.
