Certification Pathway
CRT proposes a structured certification pathway that moves from a Foundation Certificate through to specialist and expert-level recognition. Certification is not yet operational; this page describes the proposed design.
Overview
CRT certification is the formal recognition that an individual meets the CRT Professional Competence Framework at a specified level. It is distinct from membership: membership is open to eligible professionals and businesses; certification is earned through structured learning and assessment.
Certified individuals will be entitled to use CRT designatory letters (to be confirmed), to hold a Trade Integrity Passport, and to access the members-only trade platform under verified status.
Certification pathway
-
1
Foundation Certificate
The entry-level qualification covering all seven competence domains at Foundation proficiency level. Requires completion of the structured learning programme and a formal assessment. Full details on the Foundation Certificate page.
-
2
Practitioner Recognition
For experienced practitioners demonstrating applied competence through portfolio evidence and structured assessment. Entry requires the Foundation Certificate plus a minimum period of relevant practice experience (to be defined).
-
3
Specialist Qualifications
Focused qualifications in specific sectors or roles — for example, energy trading compliance, agricultural commodity logistics, or trade finance documentation. Available to Foundation Certificate holders.
-
4
Expert Recognition
The highest level of CRT recognition, awarded to senior practitioners with demonstrated expertise. The assessment methodology for Expert Recognition is proposed but not yet designed.
Eligibility for certification
Foundation Certificate candidates must hold CRT professional membership (or apply for membership simultaneously). Specific eligibility criteria — including any prerequisite experience or qualifications — will be set by the Standards Committee and published prior to the programme launch.
CRT does not propose to require prior academic qualifications for Foundation Certificate entry. The programme is designed to be accessible to practitioners who have developed competence through professional experience, not only through formal education.
Maintaining certification
Certification will be subject to periodic renewal, linked to the completion of CPD requirements set by the Standards Committee. The proposed renewal cycle is three years for Foundation and Practitioner level, with a portfolio-based review process.
Certification may be suspended or revoked if a member is found to have breached the Code of Conduct, failed to complete CPD obligations, or provided false information during the certification process.
Current status
Certification is not yet available
No certifications are being issued at this stage. The assessment process, faculty and programme delivery are all in development. This page describes the intended design. Expressions of interest are welcome.
