Trade Finance Banks

Trade finance banks are central to commodity transactions. CRT's verified credentials and professional standards are designed to complement bank KYC processes and help reduce the risk of financing commodity fraud.

Engagement invited Updated June 2026

What CRT offers this group

Trade finance banks face a persistent challenge: the individuals and businesses presenting transactions for financing are not uniformly well-known. Fraud in commodity trade frequently exploits the banking system — through false LCs, fictitious inventory financing, and advance payment schemes that require bank involvement to execute.

CRT's Trade Integrity Passport and Business Assurance service (both in development) give banks a complementary verification layer: a portable, independently issued credential confirming that the trader presenting a transaction holds current CRT certification and has no active conduct restrictions. This does not replace bank KYC but adds a professional standards dimension that KYC alone does not address.

CRT's intelligence products — sanctions updates, fraud typologies, trade risk alerts — are designed to be practically useful to trade finance risk teams.

Programme model

CRT proposes two primary engagement routes for trade finance banks:

  • Credential recognition: Banks that choose to recognise CRT credentials in their counterparty assessment process can verify a trader's status through the public verification service. No formal agreement is required; recognition is at the bank's discretion.
  • Partnership engagement: Banks interested in contributing to the design of CRT's standards, intelligence products or verification services may engage through a proposed partner programme. Details are in development.

CRT is not a regulatory approval

  • CRT credentials are voluntary professional standards, not regulatory approval.
  • Banks' regulatory KYC and AML obligations are unchanged by CRT membership or certification of their counterparties.
  • CRT is a founding-stage initiative. No credentials have yet been issued. No verification service is yet live.
