Documentation Review
The CRT Documentation Review is a proposed service that examines trade documentation — contracts, inspection reports, bills of lading, letters of credit, mandates and related instruments — against CRT's documentation integrity standards, identifying flags and inconsistencies before a transaction is committed.
Who it is for
The Documentation Review is designed for commodity trading professionals and businesses who receive or are preparing trade documentation and want independent structured assessment of its integrity and consistency before committing to a transaction.
The problem it addresses
Fraudulent or deficient documentation is a primary mechanism in commodity trade fraud. Bills of lading may be forged or duplicated. Inspection certificates may be issued by non-existent or compromised inspection bodies. Letters of credit may contain terms that systematically disadvantage the beneficiary. Contracts may contain hidden obligations or conflict with representations made in negotiations.
Identifying these problems requires structured attention to detail and familiarity with common fraud patterns — knowledge that not all traders possess.
Scope
In scope: Structural review of documentation against CRT's checklist of integrity indicators; identification of inconsistencies between documents; identification of common fraud flags; verification of inspection body credentials (where verifiable); basic sanctions screening of named parties.
Out of scope: Legal interpretation of contractual terms; authentication of physical documents; independent verification of declared facts; legal advice.
Limitations
